In the world of Mustangs, there are plenty of cars that have great street presence. And then there are cars, like this sinister Shelby Super Snake, that are wicked manifestations of high octane and pure adrenaline! Listed in the Shelby American Registry and 1 of only 43 Continuation Super Snakes ever produced, this killer pony could be the ultimate big block Ford. With one twist of its key, 452 cubic inches of Shelby Performance V8 roars to life, shattering any thinly veiled subtlety into a million pieces. When its rubber bites the pavement, a custom suspension and beefy Tremec 5-speed afford a steady diet of modern performance poseurs that’s seasoned with the occasional golden age classic. And if you’re looking for some pedigreed metal that crosses legendary heritage with fresh DNA, it’s the stuff your dreams are made of!

BODYWORK/TRIM

Like so many things modern-era Shelby, the story of the Continuation Super Snakes is a bit of a convoluted tale. But, like so many things classic-era Shelby, that story is part of what makes the cars so cool and so collectable. Back in 2001, Shelby authorized Dallas’ Unique Performance to build 400 Base and Performance GT500Es and 75 GT500E Super Snakes. Unfortunately, Unique Performance experienced financial strain and this car, GT500E Super Snake number 16, ended up in the custody of the Texas State Police. Eventually, after everything on the numbers side got sorted out, the car was sent to Revved Automotive Concepts for completion. And in the summer of 2008, it rolled out of its professional, well-documented build as one of the coolest, fastest, most lust worthy and most exclusive Mustangs on the planet. But, looking for that last 2% for a perfect car the owner sent the car back out for engine & fuel injection modifications as well as a complete bare metal re-spray of the body.

Shelby’s GT line threw fuel on the muscle car fire by not only adding power, but also introducing some of the coolest and most aggressive Mustang design cues ever created. At the leading edge of this slick coupe, clear fog lights, PIAA driving lamps and bright halogen headlights front classy billet grilles, which line an Eleanor-style fascia. At the top of those grilles, polished lanyards pin an aggressive hood in front of fresh glass that’s framed in straight trim, polished wipers, bullet-style mirrors and sculpted B-pillar scoops. At the base of that glass, Shelby fender caps, rowdy side pipes and a Monza-style fuel filler cage traditional door handles and vivid GT500E fender emblems. And at the back of the car, traditional Shelby taillights illuminate a third GT500E emblem above a color-keyed bumper and small PIAA reverse lamps.

ENGINE

Originally assembled by Keith Craft Performance of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and latter updated this pony’s bored and stroked Shelby Performance 427 mixes 452 cubic inches of displacement with smooth 10.5 to 1 compression. At the top of the aluminum mill, a Shelby-branded Vortech supercharger punches air in to a 1000 CFM Holley throttle body, That is part of a Holley Terminator EFI system. And if that wasen't enough an NOS system complete with remote valve and bottle heater adds that extra punch when you push the "Go GO Baby" button on the shifter. A resulting air/fuel mixture makes its way from a sturdy Shelby intake to ported Edelbrock heads, which ride between a Comp Cams 3170 hydraulic roller cam and Shelby-branded valve covers. When those heads flood the cylinders, a Holley controlled waste spark distributor less ignition system. Spent gases roar through coated long-tube headers. A custom Be Cool radiator, which rides between a Shelby water pump, a Unique Performance overflow and two electric fans, provides the brutal engine’s cooling. A polished Powermaster alternator spins above cool air conditioning and convenient power steering thanks to quality Concept One pulleys. And overall, the car’s textured engine bay is exceptionally well done, featuring details like modern bracing, coated tubing and, of course, the supercharger’s 3.33-inch pulley.

DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION

At the bottom of this Mustang, a freshened undercarriage houses solid, undercoated floors that are bolted to a roster of top-notch components. Behind the buff FE, a RAM hydraulic clutch engages a Tremec TKO600 5-speed, which twists a 3-inch aluminum driveshaft. That driveshaft jerks a proven Currie 9-inch that’s fitted with 3.50 gears, 31-spline Currie axles and a Torsen differential. That rear end rolls on a Unique Performance pushrod suspension, which is tailored to high quality mini tubs. Opposite that clip, a Unique Performance coil-over suspension employs Total Control power rack-and-pinion steering. Braking is equally class, with beefy calipers, “SHELBY” branded Baers up front, clenching four drilled and slotted rotors. The aforementioned headers dump spent gases in to 2.5-inch Unique Performance pipes that employ a coated crossover and tough SpinTech mufflers. And torque shakes the ground through 17-inch American Racing Shelby Cobras, which twist 245/45ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs in front of 315/35ZR17 Nitto NT555 Extreme ZRs.

INTERIOR

Open the doors and you’ll find a fully restored cockpit that mixes the best elements of Ford’s original black vinyl interior with stylish and functional upgrades. Front-and-center, “Super Snake” branded, hi-back SCAT PROCARs stretch tight leather covers under a tough roll bar and 5-point Retro-Belt safety harnesses. In front of those seats, an ornate dual-cowl dash centers Cobra-branded telemetry and satin silver trim between a Carroll Shelby signature and levers for the car’s Old Air Products climate control. Below that dash, a thin console anchors a trick Shelby shifter and Cobra-branded armrest between modern Sony audio, Auto Meter Phantom accessory gauges and a small fire extinguisher. The floors are occupied by fade-free carpet, which rides beneath thick mats and “SHELBY” branded pedals. At the sides of that carpet, ‘layered’ door panels feature clean stainless trim and bright chrome handles. In front of the driver, a wood-rimmed Moto-Lita wheel laps a color-keyed, tilting column. And behind the passengers, a clean trunk hides a Rick’s fuel cell and beefy Optima battery behind a bright NOS tank, Sony subwoofers and a full-size spare tire.
