1949 Ford Custom 500 FORD CUSTOM Additional Info:

I have seen more then my share of 1940, 50s and 60s cars and can honestly say that this is a super solid car that is pretty much rot free. there is not much that needs to be done to this car, the body is solid, i believe the only rust hole that i have seen is a 1" hole above the rear bumper, other then that, just a surface rust spot here and there wear the paint chipped off, it does appear to have been repainted once in its life. i see no evidence of bondo anywhere, looking on the underside, the frame is solid, the floor supports are solid, the inner and outer rockers are solid, floors are solid but there evidence that the floor pan on the passenger side was repaired at one time. this car has been pretty well maintained which can be seen by the new fuel tank, new fuel lines, new brakes lines and brake hoses, rebuilt fuel pump, a new 6v battery, new white wall tires, all new wiring harness, i do have the factory radio in the trunk that will go with the car, the front springs and shocks appear to be fairly new also, it has a dual exhaust system that also looks to be pretty new. the rear carpets are tan and look original and the front ones are not original and are gray, the seats are gray and in driver condition with one 2" area on the middle of the front seat that is a bit discolored and a 1" hole. other then that, the headliner, door panels and back seat all look great and may have been restored at one time. i put the new battery in and added fresh fuel and it fired up and idles good, no smoke from the flathead v8, just a faint tick like a timex watch, the car runs dam good, the clutch feels good and slides in and out of all gear good, the brakes feel pretty good also, however, due to the car sitting idle for a few years, it would be wise to just go over everything and flush out all the fluids and add fresh fluids and adjust everything, all of the wiring harness appears to have been replaced with a factory type wiring harness, even inside the car, the lights are currently not working but after doing a little testing, i believe it may just be a relay i found under the dash, when i jump the 2 terminal on it, the lights all come on, horn works, there is a wiper motor in the trunk, i do not know its condition, radio is also in the trunk and do not know its condition either. the car does shine up for a decent driver but a very little body work and new paint would make this a really nice car, chrome is driver quality too, not bad but has some pitting and surface rust, especially on the passenger side of the grill but no rot through, all the trim appears to be there, the sill plate on the driver side is missing but passenger side one is there. you can see the how solid the rocker is with the driver sill plate off. in conclusion, this is a solid 1949 ford 2 door that needs very little body work, maybe a relay for the lights and a good running flathead v8 with working brakes and good trans..of course it's a 68 years old car so nobody can guarantee anything. if there is any doubt, you may feel free to come look the car over, i will supply a jack if you would like to look underneath the car. i have only driven it short distance but have let it sit and idle for about and hour, she does purr ! bring your mechanic or i believe there is a service where a machanic will come check it out for you if you are not local to philadelphia pa 19111, please don't bid and then ask questions later. i have a ton of other photos that i can send to you directly or you can call me to ask questions..this is a "no reserve" auction so the high bidder wins this car, so only bid if your interested in buying it, your bid may be the winning bid ! a deposit of $500 is required 24 hours after the auction payable by paypal or in cash and is non refundabl, the balance is due within 7 days, i do not accept paypal for the full balance, if paid by check it can take up to 2 weeks for checks to clear, lots of scammers these days, cash will also be the quickest way and also a direct bank to bank payment transfer would also be a quick wa, i can supply a routing number for the transfer,,shipping is the full responsibility of the buyer, if your local to phila pa i may be able to assist in shipping. outside of the philadelphia area you would need to contact a shipper.,Vince 215-713-891, ,p, forgot to mention, the passenger door window handle is off and comes with it, it appears the stud on the gear for the window that passes through the door panel has the tip broken off, so it will need that stud replaced to put the window crank handle back on, not a huge issue but thought it should be known. could always swap out one from one of the back windows and use it on the front. {{it is a ford custom, not a custom 500}}

update: had a caller ask about any custom work done, this car has not been chopped, tucked, rolled, lowere, frenched or any other type of butchering work to ruin it's original state, it appears as an original. the way it should be. as far as i'm concerned, these classic cars should left original ! so the short answer is "no, it has no customizing done at all, it is 6volt, flathead v8, 3 speed on the column original right down to the generator.
