1964 FORD THUNDERBIRD CONVERTIBLE

The Ford Thunderbird is a true American classic luxury sportscar. Originally built to compete with the Chevrolet Corvette, the T-bird grew into its own style with comfort and class. Thunderbird began production in 1955 with only slight changes in 1956 and 1957 to this body style, which was referred to as the "Baby Bird" years. In 1958, styling had drastically changed. With the addition of a rear seat and well appointed luxury features, Thunderbird was well on its way to making a monumental mark in Americal car history. The 1964, Thunderbird Convertible was completely restyled again and had features such as a larger power dome (hood scoop), longer hoods and shorter roof lines. It was the most expensive model they had built to date at $4953. With 1965 models keeping the same new cost, the final year of the T- bird convertibles in 1966, actually went down in price.

This 1964 Thunderbird was built on October 22 1963 and shipped out for sale at the Seattle Washington dealer. It came standard with the powerful 390, 4 barrel carb and 'cruise-o-matic' 3 speed automatic transmission. Its wide and low stance made the car a real joy to drive and a comfort cruiser. It has 4 seat belts and plenty of stopping power with advanced dual piston front brakes. The interior of the Thunderbird is outstanding, with its chrome trimmed front bucket seats, curved back seat with center speaker. The dash is unique with the 4 pod gauge cluster, sliding bar speedometer and the vent and windshield wiper controls are like the thrustlevers on an airplane which gives the driver an amazing feel of like being in an actual jet cockpit, instead you're in your ownluxury sportscar.

The paint and interior on this car are - believe it or not- original. It is hard to find cars that have been cared for and loved over the yearsas well as this Thunderbird. It is a TRUE SURVIVOR . The drivers seat has been mended, holds together and looks fine. The carpet is showing its age. I would recommend changing it at some point to keep up the outstanding and great condition of the complete interior. The body is very solid and you can see that in a minute, with no hidden work underneath. It does have minor damage on the passenger door, also the front right fender has a dent above the headlight. I have attached pictures of those spots. The only visible rust is on the convertible top rear tray, visible when the top is up. (minor and not an issue to worry about but could be repaired at some point) Regular wear and tear on the body with a few door dings but the finish looks great overall. I personally would never consider painting this car. When people look up close they soon realize how well it has been preserved. Like the saying goes,"They are only original once." All the chrome, bumpers and brightwork, are straight and in excellent condition as well. This car drives very well and is a real headturner!
