1956 Ford Thunderbird Additional Info:

For sale: 1956 Ford Thunderbird – Beautiful “Torch Red” color outside with a red/white interior and black carpeting. This car is equipped with the 292 cubic inch V-8 engine that puts out 202 horsepower, and a 3 speed standard/manual transmission.
I am not a car expert, but I enjoy having a convertible to drive around with my kids on occasion. I purchased the car 4 years ago for $16,760. When I purchased the car in July 2013, it had 54,700 miles on it. Now the mileage is 54,921. I put 221 miles on the car in the last 4 years! I am 6’10” tall, so I didn’t fit very well behind the wheel!
While the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) indicates that this car is a 1956 (VIN #: P6FH218661), it does have many distinctive markings of a 1955 Thunderbird. Specifically:
  • There is no continental kit on the back for the spare tire. Continental Kits were standard in the 1956 models, but the added weight of the bumper and the spare tire behind the rear axle led to spin outs, and some owners changed out the bumpers.
  • The trunk DOES NOT have a well for a spare tire, which the 1956 models did not have due to the continental kits.
  • This car does NOT have air vents on the fenders behind the front wheel wells on the fenders. I am not sure if these have been welded shut. This was somewhat common I have heard. I can not tell if this has been done or not as I can not see behind the wheel wells in the front of the car. This being said, the dashboard does have the fresh air vent knobs, so I suspect that they are welded shut but don’t know for sure.
  • After purchasing the car in 2013, I did take it to my mechanic to get a look over and to make sure that it was safe to drive with my kids. In August, 2013, I had the following work done on the car during this safety check:
    • Lower ball joints replaced
    • Power steering hoses replaced
    • Turn signal lever replaced
    • Power steering RAM replaced
Total cost for this work was $1,654. (I have receipt). I did not have to have any additional work done to the car while I owned it (I only put 221 miles on it in 4 years) except for the purchase of a new battery this summer.
I did post a video to YouTube of this car. Let me know if you would like me to send you a link to this, Email me!
I have photos of the undercarriage of the car also if you would like to see that it does not have rust issues. Please email me for these photos.
The car is painted “Torch Red” with a red and white interior. Carpet is black. Very nice color combination. According to the car plate (with the vehicle identification number), the car was originally painted “colonial white” and had the red/white interior. The paint looks sharp, and has the normal touch-ups of a driver car of this age.Body: 40A, Color: E, Trim: XB, Production Code: 9BF34I can send you a photo of the VIN plate if you would like via email too.
This car does NOT have a hard top. When I purchased it in 2013, it did not have a hard top. The car does have a white vinyl top which is shown in the last 2 photos. It looks good, but does have some small holes at the location of the top joints. I never had the top up when I owned the car.
The interior dashboard is faded as you can see from the photos, but the rest of the interior is quite nice. Carpeting looks to be fairly new, the door panels are in nice but not perfect shape.
The engine runs well. It does leak a little oil in the garage, and also burns a little oil, but it is not bad. The 3 speed manual transmission works great, no problems there at all.
    Trunk is solid and clean.
4 very nice Firestone wide whitewall tires, bias ply and brand new. This car looks really good and makes a great driver car for someone who just wants to enjoy driving in a classic!
