1964 Thunderbird Convertible

In 1964 the Ford four place Thunderbird was knocking it out of the park for the Ford Motor Company. Over 90,000 Ford Thunderbirds were built and with the 390 c.i. engine with 10:1 compression ratio made around 300 hp. Being a four-passenger grand touring/sports car it seemed to push all the right buttons and today is a very desirable collector item. Of course, with the Ford Thunderbird convertible it had the retractable soft-top that went into the trunk that became a show onto itself. One of our members here at MissChiTown grew up during that time and remembers a Ford Thunderbird pulling up and just the parking was a complete focal point that would cause a crowd to gather. After the crowd got used to looking at the wonderful design of the four place Thunderbird the owner would then decide to put down the convertible top which was just amazing. Nobody had ever saw a convertible top retract into the trunk. Seeing these cars new was quite a memorable moment.

Another feature that we love here at MissChiTown is the semi round rear seats. The design is right out of one Ford’s dream car/concept cars along with many other design cues that are on the 1964 Thunderbird.

About the 1964 Thunderbird in this eBay auction, the owner tells us that the car has been well cared for and the seller tells us that everything is well sorted out. However, what really knocks it out of the ballpark for us is the stunning color with the striking soft top and we think the color scheme on this car is definitely the best color for a 1964 Thunderbird. Just looking at the pictures, your eyes will be transfixed by the interior color that matches the body color so well and the soft top contrasting the blue that makes it just striking. The car even has spinner hubcaps. As you can see from the pictures, it is in beautiful condition. The private seller tells us that everything is working and is well sorted out. It is an excellent tour car that he wouldn’t hesitate to take off and drive without a second thought.

The private seller tells us the car has power steering, power brakes, power windows and driver side power seat. The odometer is showing 11,800 but the actual mileage is unknown.

The 390 c.i. V8 engine was overhauled.

The restoration may have been done approximately four years ago.

It is very seldom that you find a car that pushes all the buttons but this 1964 Thunderbird, in our opinion, does just that. The 1964 Thunderbird is in many people’s opinion the best looking four place Thunderbird. Top that off with the fantastic color scheme and the beautiful interior accented with the spinner hubcaps and you have a visually high impact car. The 1964 Thunderbirds are all wonderful tour cars but did we forget to mention that the bucket seats are a fabulous design that was taken right out of one of Ford Motor Company’s dream cars? Just so many lovely design cues that we can’t mention them all but you can see them in the pictures. I guess you have picked up on our enthusiasm for this car and there is no reason why we shouldn’t be.

We know that four place Thunderbirds in general are extremely popular in places like Australia, New Zealand and Sweden and many countries in Europe, if you are out of the continental United States we ask that you give us a call so that we can know that your bid is real.

Again, we ask, have you ever seen a better-looking color scheme on a four place Thunderbird? This is a car you can bid to win and be happy that you did!
