1927 Ford Model T Touring Coupe Roadster Additional Info:

THIS IS THE FRONT HALF OF A 1927 TOURING COUPE MODEL T THAT I HAVE TURNED INTO A ROADSTER. IT IS DONE IN RAT ROD STYLE, HOWEVER IS BUILT PROFESSIONALLY AND THE WORK IS DONE WELL.

FRAME: THE FRAME IS MADE FROM PARTS OF OTHER CARS’ FRAMES, I SHAPED THEM THE WAY I WANTED THEM TO LOOK, THEN WELDED AND BOXED THEM FRONT TO REAR.

SUSPENSION: THE CAR HAS AIR RIDE AT ALL CORNERS. IT USES A VERY BASIC 2 VALVE SETUP. IT RAISES FRONT AND REAR WITH MANUAL VALVES AND HAS A 3 GALLON AIR TANK AND SINGLE VIAIR COMPRESSOR UNDER THE DASH. IT USES A PRESSURE SWITCH TO ACHIEVE CORRECT AIR PRESSURE. THE FRONT END IS A MODEL A TORQUE ARM SETUP. "SPLIT WISHBONES" USING A MODEL A FRONT AXLE WITH AIR BAGS ON TOP OF THE AXLE. IT HAS SHOCKS MOUNTED ON THE ARMS PROVIDING A DECENTLY SMOOTH RIDE. THE REAR IS A VERY BASIC AND DURABLE 2 LINK WITH BAGS ALSO MOUNTED ON THE TRAILING ARMS. I USE THESE SAME SUSPENSIONS IN HOTRODS WITH 5X THE WEIGHT AND POWER.

RUNNING GEAR: THE ENGINE IS A FUEL INJECTED 93 MUSTANG 2300 MOTOR (2.3L). THIS CAR HAS A STOCK WIRING HARNESS AND COMPUTER THAT HAVE BEEN SLIGHTLY MODIFIED. I MATED IT TO A 3 SPEED AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSON FROM A FORD RANGER. IT IS GEARED AWESOME FOR NORMAL DRIVING. THE MOTOR IS SMALL, BUT PRODUCES PLENTY OF POWER FOR THE SIZE OF THIS CAR - IT REALLY ZIPS! THE DRIVESHAFT WAS MADE BY FLEET PRIDE, AND IS ALL NEW AND BALANCED. THE REAR AXLE IS FROM A 1990’S CHEVY S10 PICKUP. I USED ADAPTERS TO RUN THE FORD WHEELS.

WHEELS: THE WHEELS ARE 32 FORD, I BELIEVE. THEY ARE POWDER COATED. REAR TIRES ARE BIAS PLY 6.50-16 VINTAGE STYLE USING PORTAWALLS. THE FRONT TIRES ARE HARLEY DAVIDSON MOTORBIKE TIRES. THEY RIDE AWESOME.

INTERIOR: ALMOST ALL SHEET METAL INTERIOR. I FABRICATED THE DASH, FLOOR, REAR SECTION OF CAB, CENTER TUNNEL, AND DRIVESHAFT TUNNEL. THERE ARE 2 DRIVESHAFT HOOPS IN PLACE UNDERNEATH. THE SEATS ARE JUST STITCHED YARD SEATS AND CAN BE REMOVED FOR CLEANING. THE STEERING WHEEL IS PISTON RODS FROM ANOTHER 2.3L MOTOR I HAD ORIGINALLY INSTALLED, AND MOTORCYCLE CHAIN, TIMING GEAR, AND A VALVE. IT IS CLEAR COATED AND FEELS FINE ON THE HANDS, TO ME.

EXTERIOR: I USED WHAT I HAD, THE BOTTOM OF THE CAR WAS RUSTY AND IN SOME SPOTS ARE FALLING OFF OR HAVE HOLES. MOST OF THE BODY IS IN DECENT CONDITION AND IS GOOD SOLID METAL. I MADE THE REAR OF THE CAB FROM SHEETMETAL. THE DOORS DO OPEN, BUT WOULD PROBABLY ONLY BE USED TO ACCESS UNDER THE DASHBOARD. I STEP OVER THE DOORS TO GET IN THE CAR. THE GRILL IS FROM A FORD MODEL A, I THINK. I MADE AN INSERT FOR IT, AND MODIFIED THE GRILL TO FIT. THE HEADLIGHTS FROM A 1932 FORD, I BELIEVE. THEY LIGHT UP DECENT, HOWEVER ARE BETTER FOR CITY DRIVING AT NIGHT. THERE IS ONE TAIL LIGHT, IT HAS RUNNING LIGHT AND BRAKE LIGHT.

FUEL: IT HAS A 7 GALLON TANK MOUNTED AT REAR OF THE CAR, THERE IS NO GAUGE EXCEPT LOOKING INSIDE, HOWEVER IT GETS AWESOME FUEL MILEAGE, SO IT SEEMS TO NEVER BE EMPTY.

DRIVABILITY: PRETTY MUCH, THIS CAR IS SMALL. I AM 5 FT 9 AND FIT DECENT. MY FRIEND IS 6 FT 3 AND TOOK THE SEAT OUT AND DROVE IT FOR A WEEK. THE TOP OF THE DOORS ARE ABOUT 21 INCHES WHEN AIRED OUT... IT’S VERY SMALL. I HAVE NO PROBLEMS DOING 65 MPH DOWN THE HIGHWAY WITH IT, BUT I WOULDNT CONSIDER IT A ROAD TRIP CAR SINCE THERE IS NOWHERE TO CARRY A BAG. I HAVE HAD IT OVER 100 MPH, BUT THE SHORT WHEEL BASE MAKES IT FEEL LIKE A GO CART. THE WHEELS WERE NEVER MEANT FOR HIGHWAY SPEEDS, AND WHILE THEY ARE BALANCED, AROUND 75 THEY START TO SHAKE A LITTLE. IT DOES GET OVER 30MPG ON 87 OCTANE GAS, AND IS VERY IMPRESSIVE ON SPEED FOR HOW SMALL THE ENGINE IS. I KEEP UP WITH SOME OF MY V8 RAT RODS WITHOUT A PROBLEM. I HAVE DONE APPROXIMATELY 8,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND IT'S BEEN RELIABLE.

I DO OWN A SMALL SHOP (VILLAGE CUSTOMS) AND HAVE BUILT HUNDREDS OF CARS OVER THE LAST 15 YEARS.
