1963 Fiat 500 D Additional Info:

Fiat 500D ‘Trasformabile’ Classic / 1963 / LHD Italian / Low KM’s & Owners / Sympathetically Restored & Truly Exceptional!
This example is truly one for the collector or true enthusiast, knowing these cars as we do; this one of the best I have ever come across in all respects. It is the highly desirable ‘D’ model (the most sort after & collectable model in the classic Nuova 500 range) has the very rare ‘suicide doors’, a full length convertible sunshine roof - ‘trasformabile’, ‘round speedo’ & original matching numbers 110D engine - In fact it has it all!
It’s a LHD Italian example originally from the South of Italy, but was hand selected by an Italian gentlemen residing in Guernsey. He chose the best available back in 2016 when out to Italy on a holiday. He is an aircraft Engineer so knows a thing or two about a quality restoration. This fantastic example ticked all the boxes as it had been extremely well restored circa 4/5 years ago & the floors had been replaced with quality OEM panels & the underside was fully painted in the body colour, so there are no hidden horrors!
He imported it to Guernsey 2 years ago & after having an Engineers report conducted on the vehicle was allowed to register & insure it. He has been using it with his family to zip about the island, for which it’s ideal. It soon became part of the family & it’s certainly one of the most original & factory correct examples that they had ever encountered.
We were attracted to it due to the original cream body colour being very popular, the fact that the restoration was done in Italy to such a high standard & the original engine & gear box were retained after being rebuilt. So a deal was agreed & the Italian owner believe it or not got a ferry over & drove the car up from Portsmouth to our premises. A journey of over 5 hours, in which the little car didn’t miss a beat – Very impressive for a 1960’s Fiat 500D!
Photos were taken prior to departure, which are now colour printed for the history file.
On arrival we decided to return this example to its cosmetic former glory on a no expense spared basis due to its outstanding pedigree & honesty. The car had picked up light dents to one side where a wheelie bin had attacked it during one of Guernsey’s infamous storms. It also had rub marks at low level where the straps had rubbed it whilst being trailered from Italy.
We have been meticulous in our further preparation prior to offering this exceptional example to the market by undertaking the following works: Conducted external paintwork to show standards. We have conducted this work to our usual high standards & the car presents in the original correct factory cream colour which is so period correct.
Fitted a new exhaust, quarter lights, grey mohair long sunroof & frame, with associated hold back clips & leather belt. So the new colour combination of the hood & body colour works perfectly & is most desirable. New white wall spats are fitted along with 4 new hub caps to the excellent refinished wheels. Fitted the correct D engine decal set, engine cover plate, boot mat, chrome wing mirror, windscreen wiper blades, sun visors, heat shield pad & supplied a fresh MOT and conducted a full service & multipoint check. Added £25 of new super unleaded. Fitted a 500 Key ring. The bumpers & brackets were also machine polished with new chrome bolts. Fitted an ACI club sticker, it even has fitted a new period luggage rack & period picnic hamper. The works were completed to a high standard. In fact it looks as good underneath as it does on the top, as the underside is also finished in cream.
The car is on the button & ready to go & show or just enjoy…
This is one of the best & most correctly ‘sympathetically’ restored 500D’s I have offered & is as good as my own example. It retains its key original panels & metalwork, aluminium trim, motor etc, yet now sympathetically restored & repainted, with its original body coloured underside looks fantastic. My knowledge & understanding is clear to see. It took 56 years for this vehicle to come to the UK market, but it was well worth the wait!
This vehicle is now fully UK registered & comes with a fresh, clean UK MOT certificate naturally with no advisories.
This beautiful example is eminently usable as its 5 hour drive over demonstrates, it has its original matching numbers 499cc engine with original gearbox, it drives & as good as it looks & is showing just 27,877 KM, but only nominal test mileage since the Italian restoration in 2016.
The vehicle comes with the UK V5C, Guernsey registration document / Title, The Engineers Report mentioned, Fresh current UK MOT, Specialist parts invoices from Ricambio International Ltd, Photos showing car as purchased at the owners beautiful Guernsey home & a copy of the owner’s manual.
Fiat cream paintwork with a new green & cream interior, including matching door cards & a new grey full length mohair convertible sunshine roof made by our trimmer, with strap to hold back & associated belt & clips.
New electronic ignition fitted.
Fresh MOT with NO advisories. (MOT exempt in the UK).
Free historic road tax.
Keys on Italian 500 key ring, correct original 500D jack, refurbished spare wheel with tyre & yes the original Fiat tool kit!
5No. fully refurbished Fiat steel wheels, with new premium correct hub caps & all shod with new Pirelli Cinturato matching tyres & new white wall spats.
Period boot rack with wicker hamper basket for 4 persons.
The car looks as new & is no doubt as good as when it left the factory in 1963. It’s probably one of the best examples for the price asked. It has been sympathetically restored by people who know the marquee.
