The De Soto S1 deluxe Airstream for 1936 enjoyed great success. Sales of explorer Hernando DeSoto namesake shot up for 1935 and 1936. Subtle changes for 1936 included a lowered chassis by one inch and a longer wheelbase by the same measure. A metal roof insert replaced the soft inserts of earlier cars. A 93 hp version of the reliable and peppy Chrysler Corp six continued to power the 1936 cars. Independent front suspension and 4 wheel hydraulic brakes system made the cars a pleasure to drive. 1936 DeSoto Airstream Business coupe. One of the first coupe styles to have a deck lid extending down to the bumper level, providing full access to the trunk compartment. The spare tire inside, mounted vertically behind the single 2-passenger seat. Factory optional rear wheel skirts further accent the coups clean lines and are with the car . This Airstream Coupe was part of a famous DeSoto collection of Walter Chrysler. The car is in well preserved condition.
