Original Interior!!!
This 1956 DeSoto Firedome Seville is an unrestored example with 74,839 miles and no modifications. The car is fitted with its original 330CI Hemi Firedome V8 run well with good power. The body is dented down the side and there is some minor rust. The interior is serviceable with original details present. It is smooth & good on the road and the car can be driven as a scruffy cruiser or made more presentable with some bodywork.
The previous owner had the car for 28 years and kept it roadworthy with good maintenance including a rebuild of the Powerflite transmission. His repair shop maintained the car, so few documents are included. The last service was on January 25, 2016. The car was designed by Virgil Exner as part of the “Forward Look” era for Chrysler/DeSoto.
There is rust visible around some of the the wheel wells but no additional rust or filler was found over the balance of the car and will confirm with a magnet. The previous owner said the two-tone paint is original.
There is denting along the lower doors and driver side front fender. There are dents in the trim and chrome is a bit tired, but everything seems to be there including all badging. The trunk looks to be solid with a few spots of surface rust showing. Some sheet metal is said to be interchangeable with the Chrysler C300 line.
The original two-tone interior is a strong point and looks well-worn. Seats and door panels show no tears or major fading. The painted metal dash is complete with its cool gauge cluster, push-button transmission control, dash-top mounted clock, and original AM radio.
The headliner shows some staining, but is complete with working DeS courtesy lights. Electrics are working. The previous owner repaired the heater to good working order.
Open the hood and you’ll find a clean engine bay. The 330 V8 Hemi Fire-Flite runs great with good power and a rating of 230 hp when new, up from the previous 195 hp of the 1955 model. The Firedome’s motor is not modified in any way and fed by its original 2 barrel carburetor. The balance of the drivetrain is in good working order with the push-button Powerflite transmission being rebuilt and the rear driveshaft replaced.
Chassis components show surface rust but are reported to be free of serious rot. The previous owner said he performed a brake job in the last couple years. Period whitewalls with original hubcaps look nice.
The car has spent its entire life in the Northwest...
