1969 Chevrolet Camaro Z28

What happened in 1969? Major News Stories include The Beatles' last public performance, on the roof of Apple Records, first Concorde test flight is conducted In France, Boeing 747 jumbo jet makes its debut, Woodstock attracts more than 350,000 rock-n-roll fans, members of a cult led by Charles Manson murder five people, Chappaquiddick affair Senator Edward Kennedy, PBS Established, the first man is landed on the moon on the Apollo 11 mission by the United States and Neil Armstrong and Edwin 'Buzz' Aldrin became the first humans to set foot on the Moon.

For consignment a blast (literally) from the past in the form of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. This one is special due to it having the elusive X33 code. This car is also elusive in giving up its build history due to some missing stampings, double split stampings and undecipherable stampings on drive train parts. We will be referring to consigner states and we have to take that as truth, but it is currently not rock solid verifiable using the stampings and codes. That said, here we go!

Exterior
Tuxedo Black covers the straight steel slabs on this car, which are all minding their gaps very well and its really nicely buffed and has a glass like presentation with only a few faults upon close inspection. Also, adorning the exterior are dual wide white painted on racing stripes, which.... well race up the long hood of this pony car stopping at the front windscreen and continue on the small rear deck and cool spoiler atop. No rust due to all fenders being replaced, and these frame 15-inch Rally style wheels all wrapped up in 215/70R15 rubber on all 4 corners. All chrome on bumpers, brite-work, and correct badging is excellent and mirror-like.

Interior
A swing of the doors and we can see well preserved vinyl door panels, and seats in the form of high back headrest buckets in front and a 2+2 rear bench. Racing up the center is a pristine center console which houses the Hurst shifter, and a bevy of gauges in it just below the dash. Speaking of the dash all original and fairly clean and fronted by a rosewood rimmed steering wheel. New carpet, locks and headliner all present as showroom, and a shout out to the trunk too as it sports a new liner and has correct spare and jack setup. Power steering and power brakes are noted as well as a rear working defogger are all installed on this X33 car.

Drivetrain
Consigner states a 302ci DZ coded engine in V8 format is original to this car. It has a Holley DZ 4-barrel carb, and a correct Z28 intake manifold. A correct Muncie M22 rock crusher 4-speed manual transmission is on back, and this pushes power to a 12-bolt rear with 3.73 gears. Hooker headers flow out of a beautifully restored Chevrolet Orange painted block, snazzy polished ribbed valve covers, and a correct air cleaner housing. All hoses are nice and supple, and everything else is gleaming and screaming for attention under this hood.

Undercarriage
All's well underneath which has been completely restored, and while in process had all floorpans and trunk pans replaced, and they are lookin good! Sturdy frame, and a Flowmaster exhaust snakes by all buttoned up independent coil spring suspension on front and leaf springs on the rear. Drum brakes are on back and discs upfront, and as mentioned are power assisted.

Drive-Ability
This beautiful example fired right up, ran very nicely and handled all the challenges of our test track and critical eye for anything not working. We found nothing wrong and enjoyed our ride.

A beautiful restoration indeed, all around nice X33 coded Camaro with plenty of OEM new stuff added and kept very clean and mean. "Tranquility base here...the Eagle has landed!"
