1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Additional Info:

For consideration is a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. This is a true Z car despite not sporting the 70s-tastic Z28 stripes. The car was purchased out of Grimes, IA in 2003 and immediately underwent a slow, 3 year refurbishment. The rear quarter panel bottoms were replaced in front and behind the wheels on both sides of the car. Any rust was cut the floors and patched. The car was sprayed with high-build primer and block sanded. After that process, the car was shot in lacquer (yes, lacquer) in the original Bright Blue color the car was delivered in.
Both the front seats and rear seats were reupholstered by Iowa Auto Top. The seats were trimmed in vinyl with cloth inserts, similar to how the car was originally delivered. The cloth insert is a slightly different pattern than the original, but it was carried through to the headliner and door panels; the cloth gives the impression of suede or alcantara. The dash is original to the car and shows the wear you would expect for a car of this age. The gauge surrounds are from an LT car as, at the time, I thought the brushed aluminum look was cooler than the all black plastic. The next owner should consider replacing the gauge surrounds so it appears factory original. The carpets were replaced when the car was reassembled in 2006. The stereo is a Sony Xlod unit with Xlod speakers, which reflects the period in which the car was completed (around 2006). The system does work, but only the rear speakers are connected. At the time we didn't have the heart to cut the newly reupholstered door panels.
The drivetrain is what you would expect for the 1979 Z28: a 350 small block, 350 automatic transmission, and a 3.73 posi rear differential. The engine is not original to this car; the block numbers indicate this engine came from a circa 1974 Chevrolet Silverado. The heads are Flo-Tech brand and were purchased and installed approximately 6 years ago. The rockers were replaced with stamped Speedway roller rockers, and the head bolts were replaced with Grade 8 fasteners, also from Speedway. A shift kit was installed in the transmission around the time the car was originally purchased. The transmission has given us no issues; it shifts hard and has never skipped a beat. The B&M ratchet shifter was installed in the car when we purchased it. The exhaust is extremely loud and exits behind the rear axle. I had planned to install a complete exhaust to ready the car for the next buyer, but other projects have taken priority. I have never had the center section of the front splitter. One of the previous owners damaged it and it was never replaced. They are available through eBay and other online parts retailers. The Edelbrock 4 barrel carb and been rebuilt and works well with the Edelbrock performer intake. There is a small rear main seal leak, like most old Chevrolets.
Included with the sale is the original steering wheel, shifter, intake, quadrajet carb, and space saver spare. I have had this car since I was 13 years old; it has been extremely difficult to come to the conclusion that it is time to sell it to make room for new projects. The car is listed at $12,500, but I am open to offers, especially from those that seem passionate about the car. As long as offers are respectful, and I feel the car is going to a good home, I am open to talk.
$500 is due via PayPal upon offer acceptance. The buyer is responsible for shipping/pick up.
