I bought this car from Georgia in March of 2013 and brought it back to its’ birth place in California .

This now beautiful and completely functional Super Sport has been enjoyed by me for the past several years at car shows and typical Saturday morning Hot Rod gatherings here in Southern California. My “Beast”, as it’s known around my town, has actually become a dependable car for his age and is driven weekly. But remember, it’s an old car and from time to time, demands attention.

Ok, a brief summary of what I have done to the car since it was purchased.

First and foremost was the rebuilding of the power plant. We broke down the motor which started out as a L78 clone with solid lifters and way too strong 11:1 compression. Just wouldn’t run well or at all on this cheap California gas. Turned out to be a great block with four-bolt main so, off we went to build up a very strong 396 stroker motor. Youtube video shows the first engine run on the Dyno at 602HP but now it has over 2000 miles on it and even stronger. 180 degree, cool running big block with roller rockers and Brodix heads. You’ll notice by the video and pictures that I wanted to keep that stock look as much as possible so the top motor parts have had their product names ground off, peened to look like cast and painted Chevy orange. The guys at Superior who put this motor together are serious builders. Who takes brand new, out of the box, Brodix heads and takes them apart to finish polishing the ports all the way?

They do!!!!

Of course, the engine build sheet will come with the car or, may be reviewed by SERIOUS inquirers and yes, the video shows the first engine dyno run at 602HP to the flywheel.

From there it’s a Centerforce, 600HP rated clutch to an original, rebuilt Muncie M20 four speed with Hurst shifter. Then a balanced driveshaft, to a new Eaton posi-track with 373 gears. All rubber suspension bushings have been replaced along with beefed up boxed trailing arms and sway bar. GM power front disc brakes and thank goodness, power steering with a new pump. Got to try and keep this thing on the road!!!

After several months of enjoying the new Big Block it was time to take this 66 to the next level. So I negotiated with Kenny at Mascar Auto Body into doing body work and paint on the entire car from front to back. A big handful of cash and I was on my way to a half inch longer, gapped, blocked, sanded and flawlessly painted 10+ body and paint job. The pictures don’t do this car justice and on numerous outings I have been told it has the best paint job on the lot.

The interior of the car is pretty much how it was when purchased and I would say it’s a good 8 out of 10. I replaced some gauges, odometer and added a new sound system with a sub-woofer in the trunk which probably turns out to be the biggest waste of money. I almost never turn it on cause my favorite station turned out to be “Windows down and 396 stroker.”

Sound deadening has been installed throughout the entire interior of the car, including the doors and behind the back seat.

I tried to keep this car as original looking as possible and no, it’s not a complete restoration but then again that’s not what I was looking to do nor did it need it. The Beast is as US made as I could keep it with the least amount of “Made in China” as possible.

So why sell it? I don’t know. Maybe get something different or maybe not. Or maybe, just keep the Beast around a bit more. I’ll leave that up to you.

Inspections welcomed and recommended once price has been agreed upon.
