THIS IS A RARE AND UNUSUAL OPPORTUNITY FOR THE CORVETTE ENTHUSIAST. PLEASE READ THE AD AND VIEW ALL THE PHOTOS TO UNDERSTAND THE COMPLETE STORY. NOTE: IF YOU ARE SEARCHING FOR A CONCOURSE, 100% CORRECT NCRS TOP FLIGHT EXAMPLE, THIS IS NOT THE CAR FOR YOU. THIS CORVETTE IS BEING SOLD FOR A FRACTION OF THE CURRENT MARKET AND AUCTION VALUE OF A TOP FLIGHT L88 VETTE. THE REASON FOR THIS IS THAT ALTHOUGH THE NUMBERS MATCHING ENGINE BLOCK STILL RESTS IN THE ENGINE BAY, THERE ARE COMPONENTS THAT ARE NOT CORRECT TO AN L88. IT'S THAT SIMPLE. THIS CAR HAS BEENBEAUTIFULLY RESTORED, BUT IT HAS BEEN RESTORED TO AN OWNER'S PREFERENCES, AND IT IS NOT CORRECT. 1152 MILES SINCE RESTORATION. PLEASE VIEW THE PHOTOS AND READ THE DESCRIPTION, THEN YOU CAN COME TO YOUR OWN CONCLUSION.

At some point in ownership, some modifications and upgrades were made to suit the owner’s interests. These changes were made back in the day, before the market value of these vehicles skyrocketed into infinity. This is more common in the muscle car hobby than miraculously finding a 40 or 50 year old vehicle with every nut and bolt completely original after all these years. Gear heads purchased and modified them in the era. Today, hobbyists have labeled these "Day Two Restorations". That is the case with this vehicle. Then a fresh frame up was recently performed, preserving the Day Two modifications. Keep in mind we are selling this beautiful Corvette for a fraction of what a completely original example would sell for. However, the numbers matching engine is still installed in the vehicle. The VIN number, engine code, and build date are clearly visible on the engine pad, on the block. Look at the photos at the top of the ad to view it. Also, the block is the correct 512 casting code.

Remaining options for the L88 are present on the vehicle. However, some components, including but not limited to carburetors, intake manifold, air cleaner, alternator, hose clamps, water pump, and brakes are not correct.

These components are readily available, and at this price, the new owner can definitely make the car completely correct and still be way under market value. Or, since it is a freshly restored example, drive it and enjoy it as it is. Even an L88 clone or reproduction sells for more than we are asking.

We believe this is the perfect opportunity for the Corvette buff. Enjoy it as is, or improve your investment by replacing the incorrect parts.

We ask that interested buyers contact us for an appointment for an inspection if you have any questions or doubts, so there is no confusion.

ALL LEGITIMATE TRADES WILL BE CONSIDERED.

Due to an extended labor strike, the 1969 Corvette build cycle was one of the longest for U.S. cars- September of 1968 until December of 1969. Serial number range 700001-738762.

The VIN number for this Corvette decodes as follows-

1- Chevrolet Division

94- Corvette

37- Two Door Coupe

9- 1969

S- St. Louis, MO. Assembly Plant

726419- Sequential Serial Number

Although it was one of the most aggressive, powerful vehicles ever built, the L88 was a very discreet offering by Chevrolet. Manufactured from 1967-1969, approximately 216 total units were manufactured, 116 of them in 1969. Chevrolet actually discouraged L88 orders from dealers and the public. It was developed for the track and never intended for street cruising. Many were even optioned as radio and heater delete.

To qualify for SCCA A-Production and FIA GT events, the L88 had to be offered as a standard factory option, so GM quietly, almost secretly offered the car for sale to the public. Automotive icon Zora Arkus-Duntov headed the project, with motivation from legend Don Yenko and the Sunray DX Motorsports Team. The L88 was in fact first offered to teams such as Sunray DX Motorsports, for events such as Sebring and Daytona. The beast even crossed into the realm of drag racing, and was quite successful. In an unexpected twist of fate, more of these ended up on the streets in the possession of the general public than were used for the intended purposes of racing. Due to the newly enforced stringent emissions standards of the day, GM was forced to cancel the L88 after 1969. It remains today as one of the most feared and respected examples in Muscle Car era history.

The average car enthusiast may believe the only difference between an L88 and a standard Corvette is in the engine bay. Of course the engine featured Cam Am spec aluminum heads, forged crank, 12.5:1 pistons, solid cam and valve train, and a 850 CFM dual feed Holley carb. The L88 included much more than just the engine upgrade. Mandatory factory upgrades included a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher or M20 Turbo Automatic, power assisted heavy duty brakes, F41 heavy duty suspension with new coil springs and dampers, G81 Posi-Traction differential, and a Cowl Induction Hood.
