1966 Chevrolet Chevelle SS Additional Info:

Very original survivor 1966 Chevelle SS 396 Convertible with Factory A/C. (5,269 convertible SS produced in 1966) This madeira maroon, black top Chevelle SS was found in dry storage in Texas last year -- it had been off the road for over 25 years. Engine number matches the VIN and all components are date code correct. 100% original example showing 92,350 miles.

The SS runs and drives. It has been run frequently and driven sparingly (to the coffee shop at the end of my street) mostly to shake down any issues. Those issues are minor and are identified throughout the description. The car is a great candidate for light restoration or for continuing to live as a survivor. Very rare to find a real 138 SS car in this condition, especially #s matching and with Factory A/C + convertible. 1 of 962 cars with power rear antenna!

TX title. Please do not hesitate to contact me to chat about the Chevelle. Happy to show the car in person. Entertaining best offers.

MECHANICALS

Original #'s match 396 with EKH code. 325HP, Holley 4 barrel carb. I went through the engine, replacing all fuel lines/tank, carb rebuild, new radiator hoses, t-stat + housing, spark plugs/wires + points, oil/filter.

It runs very well, pulls strong. Oil pressure rises to 60 PSI quickly and stays there. The original radiator has presented a small leak and there is a small valve cover gasket leak over #8, which drips onto the exhaust manifold/smokes once the engine is warm (photo below).

Original factory Frigidaire A/C is present and does not look like the system has ever been apart. I have not attempted to run it.

Original Powerglide automatic transmission was flushed and engages very well in all gears(casting #3863182, stamped T1119D).

Original 12 bolt rear end has not been touched (casting #3875745N). Stamped CW1223B -- 3.31:1 gearing.

New master cylinder and soft lines – brake pedal is still soft -- the rest of the brake system should be gone through.

Original electrical is unmolested. New battery. Three T3 headlights are present.

EXTERIOR

Chevelle exterior is in great shape with no body or frame damage/evidence of accidents. All panels appear to be original. Factory boxed frame (for convertible) is in great shape with no signs of accident and no rot.

Convertible top is in very good condition. No tears whatsoever. Original back HERCULITE glass in rear window.

There is some sheet metal rust which is contained to trunk pan (on top of the gas tank). One small rust spot on the decklid (shown in photo). One small section of rust on the front side of the passenger door. Looks like the car took a small swipe from backside of front wheel to front of door – the damage to door must have been exposed and since rusted through.

Paint is cracked/spiderwebbed throughout but has buffed up and shows well for a survivor. Car appears to have been resprayed at some point – there is some minor overspray in the engine bay. Not sure why as it shows no signs of accident.

INTERIOR

Original interior is in good shape with the exception of front seat cushions. They are torn – will need replaced. Original door cards are also showing wear at bottom of door. Driver's window crank and interior door handle missing. Rest of upholstery/carpet is in good shape. Dash is in very good shape and all gauges work. Steering wheel is perfect. Aftermarket Oil pressure, engine temp, and Electrical gauge installed (only oil pressure connected). Aftermarket a-track player installed. Original AM radio works well.
