1966 Chevrolet Chevelle Super Sport Additional Info:

Up for auction is my original, un-restored, 12,224 original mile 1966 Chevelle SS. I am the second owner of this awesome car and my Parents were the original owners. This car was purchased new by my parents in May of 1966 from the dealership where my father worked at the time. The car spent the first two years of its life on the street and strip before being dedicated strictly to drag racing in 1968 when the original 360HP 396 was replaced with a 427. Fortunately my father had the insight to keep the original engine. In the early 70’s, the 427 threw a rod and the car sat in the garage for a decade until I brought it out in 1985. I too put a 427 in the car and took it racing along with an occasional trip down the street. In my quest to go faster, I decided to purchase another race car as to not chop this original car up. In 1988 I pulled the 427 and the car has been sitting with the engine out ever since. I have never taken the time to reassemble the original engine and transmission and reinstall.

In the past 30 years, the car has remained covered in a garage as I left it in 1988. This past year, I pulled it from its corner and discovered a few discouraging things. The first discovery was that a mouse had chewed a hole in the headliner. (Fortunately there is NO mouse urine smell.) The second discovery was blemishes in the mostly original paint. (I will explain that later). The third discouraging discovery was made when I removed the original spare tire and floor mat from the trunk and found was surface rust on the floor of the trunk. It was at this point I decided that letting this car sit around was a shame and I should probably let it move on to someone else.

I wanted to be sure of what I was up against regarding the trunk floor and blemished paint before I moved forward with selling this car. I am fortunate to live only a few miles from one of the best restoration shops in the country. I trailered the car there to see what could be done with the trunk and paint. The trunk floor was only minor surface rust and was easily cleaned and resealed. I did not ask them to re-splatter the trunk because I wanted the next owner to see this. The blemishes in the paint were mostly buffed out and the result is amazing. The undercarriage and floor are still in great shape also!

The car has only 12,224 original miles!

The interior is 100 percent original.

The body panels and chrome are 100 percent original.

The car is mostly factory original paint. When the car was new, my mother (18 yrs old at the time) backed it between two fence posts, scratching the quarter panels. The story she always told me was that the right quarter panel had to be repainted, but the left cleaned up. The restoration shop that recently buffed the paint measured thickness and determined that both quarter panels were probably re-painted.

This is a factory painted black top.

The rear panel emblem was removed by my father and replaced with the SS-396 emblem in the middle. He liked the look of the 67 SS rear better and changed it to match that!

Although removed from the car, I have the original engine block, heads, intake, distributor, right exhaust manifold, distributor, bell housing, transmission case, factory installed 4:56 gears. (The original axle housing is still in the car but has 5:13 gears currently) and radiator.

I have documentation such as the original bill of sale, loan documents, insurance documents, license plate and owner’s card as well as some other items.

I can help arrange shipping if needed at buyer's expense.
This car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this listing at any time.
