Then, Tim Thorpe took it 12 miles to his shop where it began one of his meticulous restorations. In October 2012, Tim delivered it to the NCRS Regional Judging Event in Frisco, Texas where it earned Top Flight. Over the next 18 months, it was hauled to the other top judging events where it won Top Honors. Travis R. Scott, a 29-year-old family man/car guy/ business owner was waiting at Big Four Chevrolet on South Jefferson Street in St. Louis the day his red Corvette was delivered. At the time, he had a 7-year-old son, Travis "Rusty" Scott, Jr., a 3-year-old daughter, Carla, and a wife, Doris, who was expecting another child, or so he thought. Travis was also the proud owner of a "Scott's Service" a Phillips 66 Station located at what is now MLK & 6th Ave. in East St. Louis, IL. On June 3rd his wife delivered Twins his son Janfrey, and his twin sister Christa. Now he has a new Corvette and a large family, but Travis kept them all. Growing up, Janfrey often remembers rides in the "Vette", as they called it, with his sister and him standing in the passenger seat. He believes that is why he became a very "balanced" athlete. Rusty learned to drive in the Vette and was sure his father was going to give it to him when he turned 16, but instead got a bondoed up 67 Mustang. Janfrey says the only time he ever drove it was when he was 14, popped the clutch and it shot out of the station backwards. The 31,188 miles is correct as the Vette very seldom left the East St. Louis area and hardly ever crossed the river to St. Louis since their large family took a bigger car. Travis was a great shortstop at Lincolon High School in East St. Louis and was invited to try out with the St. Louis Cardinals, but was more interested in cars and wanted to run his own station. His nick name back then was "Planky" and people still tell stories about going to the park to watch Planky play. While running Scott's Service, Travis became an Alderman and very active in politics for many years until his final attempt to stop the city from going under by running for mayor against the young Carl Officer in about 1980. He lost and then said the city was in big trouble. Travis was a huge voice against some of the corruption and poor decisions in East St. Louis. Janfrey says his father quit driving the Vette on a regular basis before 1977 and it was not long after when he placed it is storage at the station where it remained until June 2010 when Tim Thorpe removed it and took it to his shop 12 miles away. Today, Travis R. Scott, Sr. 81, is on dialysis living in an assisted living facility in East St. Louis. Travis "Rusty" R. Scott, Jr. 59, retired last year after 32 years with Anheuser Busch, Inc. and lives in Fairview Heights, IL. Sister Carla has her Doctorate in Education and also lives in Fairview Heights. Janfrey N. Scott, 51, is an Architect living in Smithton, IL. Unfortunately, Mama Doris Scott died in October 2012 about the same time the car was being delivered to Texas. Janfrey's twin sister Christa died when she was 19 and 8 months pregnant. The baby was saved, Travis and Doris adopted, and raised her. Today she is Charla Scott Claypool, an attorney in St. Louis. The Corvette and the Scott family never went far home, but travelled a long ways in life. ////Devine intervention. For years, there were rumors about this 63 Corvette stored some place in East St. Louis, but nobody could find it. Tim Thorpe, who lives only 12 miles away in O'Fallon, IL, owns Tim Thorpe Body Shop & Corvette, and has been a Corvette restorer and Bloomington Gold Judge for over 30 years. Know as the "L88 Guru", Tim has owned and restored many of the top L88's and Corvette's in the nation. Tim is currently freshen up the 67 L88 sold at Mecum Dallas 2013 for $3.2 Million and had previously owned and restored this car. Tim and his wife Carl attend the Faith Family Church in Swansea, IL where they had become acquaintances' of Janrey and his family, but had never discussed what Tim did for a living. Finally one Sundry Janfrey mentioned he was originally from East St. Louis, and Tim brought up the rumor about the 63 Corvette, and Janfrey replied, "And it's Fuel Injection". The rest is history. Over the next two years, Tim and his crew, did one of their meticulous restorations and delivered it to two Houston, Texas collectors, Frank Gilchrist and Warren Howell, at the NCRS Regional Judging Event in Frisco, Texas in October 2012. Without ever driving the car before, Tim drove it into the Grand Ball Room where it earned Top Flight, first time out. Gilchrist owns a 75 Car Collection of mostly 1960's era Muscle Cars. Howell has owned many top cars, including the 1962 Packer Pontiac Catalina Super Duty Race Car. Together, they also own the 1963 Union Park Pontiac Catalina Super Duty "Swiss Cheese" Race Car. With only 9 known to exist, this car is #8 out of 13 produced and was General Motors most ambitious effort at producing a factory built race car. From 1997 to 2010, Tim Thorpe restored this car back from a highly altered A/FX car to exactly the way it left the Pontiac plant in January 1963 and was first raced by Harold Ramsey for Union Park Pontiac in Wilmington, Delaware. It Receive a perfect score of 400/400 at Concours d'Elegance Judging. It is the highest Judged and only "Swiss Cheese" car to receive the Grand Champing Award by the Pontiac/Oakland Club International. After the NCRS Top Flight, the Corvette was taken to Champaign, IL in June 2013 where it received the Blooming Gold Award with 98.6 %. Next to Chicago, IL in November 2013 for the Muscle Car & Corvette Nationals where it earned Concours Gold and the prestige's Triple Diamond Certification. Finally, to the Corvette Expo in Houston February 2014 where it was 1 of only 6 Corvettes in the country to receive the NCRS Try Power Award. This car has to be the most recent, highest awarded Corvette in the country.
