1967 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396 Additional Info:

Hello everyone and thanks for taking the time to view my 67 Chevelle SS396 Convertible. This real 138 code 67 SS396 is incredibly nice with no rust anywhere to be found. It is reliable and can be driven daily without any issues. I've had this Chevelle for a little over a year now and have enjoyed every minute of it. Here is a brief description of the history of this Chevelle as I know it. Please bare with me and readthe whole description. I've posted a lot of pictures, so you'll know just how nice this SSactually is. I'll post these pictures in sections with descriptions with each set.
Exterior DetailsThis Chevelle SS'sexterior is in phenomenal condition and as far as I can tell (also based on previous owner's recollection), has all original body panels. I've always called this Chevelle a driver quality car. Now, in the cars defense, everyone who see it calls it a show car andcan't find any flaws in it. I have a couple of concours restoration cars and to compare it to those, it looks great, but it is a number 2 car, or between a #2 and a #3. I did replace a section in the trunk andwill show that in the pictures further below. It was a small section above the passengers side frame rail and right beside the wheel hump. That was the only spot of rust Icould find on the car and that whole section was cutout and replaced with real metal from The Parts Place Inc. Notice the hood lip, the bottom of the fenders, under the bottom of the doors, the door jambs, the bottom of the quarter panels, and the trunk lid. There is no rust in these areas at all that I can see. There is noremnants of rust either. Regarding the fenders, you can look inside them and notice that the only badges thathave been on them are the SS396 badges. The quarter panel Super Sport badges are the only badges that appear to have ever been in the quarter panels as well. I was told that the quarter panel bottom edgescould'vebeen replaced at some point, but the previous owner was unsure. I can tell that itdidn'thave full quarter panels replaced, and Ican'ttell that the lowers have been replaced either. If therewasmetal put in, it was done very well, and it was only at the very bottom of the rear quarters. As far as I know, thetrunkis the only spot with replaced metal, but I just want to be as honest as possible. The paint is very good, but there are some tiny rock pecks on the front that are very faint and very few. There are no runs in the paint and no major issues at all. Lastly, notice that there is no antenna in the front right fender or rear quarter panel. This is a radio delete car and as far as I know, it always has been.
Interior and Top DetailsI was told that the interior is mostly original. Ican't tell that its every been replaced or recovered. Usually you can tell that the carpet has been replaced because the pile is a little different. This looks exactly right and the seats look exactly right. The shifter is original, but due to the flash, the black shift pattern does show up, but it is there. This is the factory original shifter, but it has the hurst linkage with a muncie adapter on it. As you know, the hurst setup is much tighter and easier to get to the correct gear faster. It shifts and feels great. The convertible top was replaced with a black one. It came from the factory with a white one, butdidn't look right with the correct black interior. Theconvertible top has no rips, tears or problems. The best part about this car is that it came from the factory with a power top. It has an original style switch and bezel under the drivers side footwell. The original switchworked when it wanted to, so I ordered it three times, trying to get the correct factory styleswitch. I found out quickly that most companies have no idea what a 67 power topswitch actually is. The chrome bezel around it isoriginal to the car and is excellent. That is an extremely rare piece. Another really rare part is the factory radio delete that is 1967 only. There are no tears or rips inside, but you can tell that the carpet is old, the bench seat is a little faded, and the dash plastic chromeisn't perfect. It all looks very good, but I just wanted to mention those bits.
Drivetrain and UnderbodyThe engine was rebuilt several years ago, butstill has great compression and plenty of power. It has that awesome low end grunt only found in big block cars. It just feels right. The engine was rebuilt, but never decked and still shows theletters and numbers from the car it came from. I was told that it was bored 30 over and standard 402 pistons were used. It decodes to have came from a 67/68 396 Camaro 325hp manual transmission car. The code shares both year models, so it was a late year 67 2 bolt main block. It runs smooth with no misses or issues. It does have headers which look good, but theexhaust pipes show their age. They're not rusted through anywhere, but they do have surface rust on them due to being untreated steel. The make/model the transmission came from is unknown to me. It is an M20 that shifts smooth and feels amazing. No grinding and holds in gear just as it should. With the hurst shift linkage, it is tight and feels better than any 67 I've driven. Therear differential is a 3.73 positive traction 12 bolt that worksjust as it should with no roaring, grinding, or issues. The floors are absolutely superb and original. They have never been replaced and the firewall is excellent as well. The 4 speed trans hole has never been tampered with and it is very obvious that it is original to the car. There is no question as to whether or not this car came from the factory with a manual transmission. The gas tank was replaced by the previous owner and still looks very good. As mentioned before, the only piece that has ever been replaced was a 6" by 4" spot on the passengers side of the trunk above the frame rail, just to the left of the inner wheel well hump. The wheels and tires are excellent with new Firestone redlines on factoryrallye wheels. Thisconvertible is basically a bare bones car with the power top and 4 speed being the only noticeable options. It doesn't havepower steering or disc brakes, but it turns easily and brakes strong without issues. Please bare with me as I posted a lot of pictures. I want all potential buyers to be able to see just how nice this 67 Chevelle SS396 is. Please view all of the pictures before bidding or before calling and asking questions. I am willing to sell early for a good offer. I just want the car to go to a good home for a good price. It means a lot to me and I have enjoyed the car very much.
