1978 Z28 Camaro with rare 4-speed transmission presented ‘as factory’ with only 25,640 miles, two owners, highly desirable with original and beautiful Light Red (75) fantastic paint, Z28 hood with Z28 orange graphics, red bucket seated interior, amazing documentation, there is a full fresh listing of all the MATCHING NUMBERS later in this Fraser Dante report confirming the authenticity, has the GM factory alloy Western wheels, red lines, has the original 350cid with casting #3970010 and vin # and date code clearly shown, strong compression, still equipped with the original Rochester Quadrajet 4v carburetor just set up, Z28 3.73:1 axel with the 4-speed transmission, the original red oxide underchassis is just sensational, the fuel and brake lines are perfect, power steering, power disc brakes, the air conditioning system is also just checked, note that all the glass is original, now the complete full tune and setup is just done with fresh oil and filter, fresh braking system completed, then professional detailing for the Z28 to look striking for Spring 2017, amazing documentation,
This car history: today ‘as new’ condition that appeals to the new generation of collectors, see the attached documents showing how exacting this rare 1978 Z28 is, very hard to find with the Factory Owner’s Manual, the Warranty Information, the original Factory Dealership Inspection Report, the many registrations over the years, very hard to find such great ‘stuff’, the red oxide underchassis is just sensational, photos do not even show how ‘as new’ they are, even the brake and fuel lines look new, after being purchased from the first owner, said second collector unfortunately passed away at an early age, the younger son really could not drive this 4-speed car plus this was simply a piece that needed to go due to memories and economics,
Engine: this has the factory Z28 original 350cid engine with the original Rochester Quadrajet carberator, all the numbers are listed as just ‘pulled’, the NUMBERS ARE VERY IMPORTANT TO THE VALIDATION, the stampings on the pad show “CHS: 350ci, MT*”…the Z28 350cid with the 4.00” bore and the 3.48” stroke was rated at the highest rating for Chevrolet that year, 185 horsepower at 4000 rpm and the very strong torque with 280 fl/lbs at only 2400 rpm yields very good performance, a dry cold compression is really just terrific with the new readings of 146 to 155 lbs, since this has sat for a number of years, this is very good and will get better as the car is driven some, the fresh HEI GM ignition with the red wires, has the uprated 8.5mm uprated spark plug wires installed, this makes the car run great,
a new set of long tube headers was put on the car by the second owner with the new aluminized 2 ½” exhaust system and standard mufflers, this presents very well, after sitting for a few years by said second owner then passed on to his son, when delivered for Spring 2017 to Fraser Dante, this red 1978 Z28 now has the new tune with fresh spark plugs, timing set, new oil and filter, fresh coolant checked now in the car by the Fraser Dante staff,
History of the factory build: the 1978 Camaro was a fantastic success with the bold styling and the excellent handling, with 247,437 units produced to the Mustang’s production of 179,039 units, this was an all new body with the cool aggressive rear spoiler, a color urethane front and rear fascias year, behind the sleek new nose was the impact absorbing crash structure able to withstand greater impacts, 3-color rear lenses on either side of the fuel door in the center, the Z28 had lower gear ratios than the rest of the Camaro’s, the fenders redesigned to mate with new fascia to fit in the overall sleet design that is one of the ultimate American high designs,
upkeep and condition: with this being a two owner and very low miles 1978 Z28, the paint and body are just sensational as factory original, today this car has the original and working air conditioning system just checked, the underchassis is truly exceptional, really a surprise to find this rare 4-speed, red Z28 in this condition, the braking system is just checked in the Fraser Dante shop, the front pads are virtually new in car, note we believe the actual mileage is proven by the original brakes not having been replaced, until Fraser Dante checked them, the rear drums and hardware are just checked and newly done,
wheels/tires: note that the photos show the hard to find rare ‘Chevrolet Western’ gold factory alloy wheels with ‘made in USA’ stamped on them, they are really in great condition, tires are single red line 225/70/R15 B.F.Goodrich radial TA’s with great tread and a date code of 2010, note this has the original unused collapsible spare in the trunk, also has a nitrogen bottle, the factory jack assembly still in the trunk, original factory trunk splatter still great looking that is under the factory trunk mat,
Summary: here is a really an exciting presentation of a rare ‘time warp’ like new 1978 Chevrolet Z28 with all documents to confirm history and authenticity, the mechanicals and braking are checked for Spring 2017 to be ready to go for this to be a show winning investment piece
