The last of the first! After 9 years and 4 "facelifts", production of the first-generation Corvette came to an end in '62. Americas first and best sports car had been steadily evolving over the years and by '62 the guys in St. Louis had taken it about as far as they could in its present form. But, that didn't mean they didn't have a few tricks left. In '61 Corvette underwent a body revision. The front end was cleaned up a bit with the deletion of the "teeth" in the grille and the back end was redesigned with what would foreshadow the '63. The body of the '62 was basically the same as the previous year, but there were some significant changes. The side "coves" were still present, the contrasting color option was no longer available. A ribbed rocker panel molding was added in its place. Overall, the '62 had a cleaner, less cluttered exterior. But, the big news was what was under the hood! The 283ci V-8 grew to 327ci and with it grew the hp! Starting with a base 250hp engine, the options were 300hp, 340hp, all the way up to the 360hp fuelie, making the '62 the best of the last!
This '62 was originally sold new at Byrne Bros. Chevrolet in upstate NY. The owner was in the military and at some point, was transferred overseas. The car sat for 17 years until it was sold to a restoration shop. It was then frame-on restored and it's #'s matching engine rebuilt. And a short time later sold to Corvette Mike in '94. We then sold it to the current owner. After caring for the car for over 20 years and a little over 10k miles, he decided it was time to pass her on the next caretaker, so here she is. We always like to have cars we've sold back, especially ones that have been so well cared for like this one. Options include the 327/340hp engine, 4-spd transmission, Posi rear end, both hard and soft tops, Wonderbar radio and correct bias ply whitewall tires. Included in the sale is a binder with receipts, before and after photos of the restoration, Owner'sKit and original Dealer Invoice!
