1984 Chevrolet Suburban Silverado Additional Info:

INTROI love this truck! I love theway it drives, the way it smells, and the fact that it has never let me down. If I could in any way justify keeping it I would do so but it just doesn't fit into my life right now. It gets lots of attention andfolks regularly stop me to ask about it. I want to find it a good home with someone who loves it like I do. I'd prefer to have it go to someone who plans to restore it someday. Apart from some recent accident damage at the left rear this truck is exceptionally solid and clean and will make an excellent work truck or a great basis for a full restoration.
All records from the time that I have owned the truck are included along with a shop manual.
IMMEDIATE NEEDS
In order to pass inspection the truck will need the left rear tail light repaired. This could be done without repairing the entire left rear quarter panel.
ACCIDENT DAMAGE
In July of this year the truck was hit at the left rear corner while parked. The damage affects the front and rear bumpers (it was pushed into the car parked in front of it), the left rear quarter panel, and the left rear door. The left rear door operates as if it wasn’t hit and the tailgate was unaffected. The damage to the tail light is the only part that affects the drivability and inspectibility of the truck.
Fully repairing the accident damage will cost between $2,000 and $2,500 if done by a shop like Maaco. All of the parts are readily available. In repaired condition the truck is worth about $4,000 to $4,500 and it is appreciating in value. This makes repairing the truck very much worthwhile.
MAINTENANCE
Below is aspreadsheet showing the work done on the truck in the past 9,200 miles. It has been very well maintained. It has an Interstate battery, four recent tires, and the spare Good-Year tire has never seen the road. The exhaust and brakes have been completely re-built.
RUST
The frame and undercarriage are exceptionally clean due to the fact that it spent much of its life in upstate South Carolina. There is rust at the bottom of the left rear quarter panel but around it. The panel was probably damaged and this lead to localized rot. See the of the bottom of the spare tire well which is pristine in spite of the paint having been rubbed off the metal by theworking of the spare tire. This is directly inboard of the rusted quarter panel. There is also rot at the front of the right front wheel well. See the picture looking down past the battery. The rest of the wheel well is fine as is the left side.
Otherwise, there is some rust at the bottom of the doors, door openings, and tailgate. See the picture of the bottom of the left rear door opening. The sills are solid. None of the rust affects the structure of the truck.
The rust at the bottom of the doors and tailgate is due to the seals having gotten old. They now let water in aroundthedoor and the glass which runs down and rusts the bottom of the doors/tailgate and the openings. I have a set of new seals for the tailgate which I never installed and these will be included with the truck.
MILEAGE
I’ve put a bit more than 21,000 miles on the truck since I purchased it in June 2001. The odometer currently shows about 3,900 miles. My best guess is that the truck has 204,000 miles on it. This would mean that it averaged 10,700 miles/year in the years before I bought it.
WEAR AND TEAR
There is normal wear and tear to the interior. The front seats are solid and really only need seat covers. Pretty much every part for this truck, including interior trim, is available from LMC Truck and other suppliers.
MOTOR AND MECHANICALS
The motor has not had any major problems since I’ve owned the truck. Like most old carbureted vehicles it doesn’t like to get up on a cold morning but has always started for me. It originally had air conditioning but the compressor and other parts were removed at some point before I owned it. The heater works really well!
