“COPO” Nova Super Sport

#4 of 50 “COPO 9738” Nova Super Sports ordered by Fred Gibb Chevrolet in Laharpe, llinois and sold new through Dick Harrell Performance Center in Kansas City, issouri on January 2, 969.

Harrell, nown as “Mr. Chevrolet” in the 60s, eceived numerous COPOs such as this one for additional high performance options including several 427-L72 conversions.

This well-known, agazine-featured COPO comes with lots of documentation. It includes a letter of authenticity from Fred Gibb, OPO serial number list released by Helen Gibb, opy of the original MSO, ick Harrell articles and advertisements, igned vehicle history letter from the original owner, ast titles showing previous owners, re-delivery sheet with Protect-O-Plate imprint, intage photos, OPO verification certificate from Ed Cunneen (who also did the body-off restoration) and autographed signatures on the dash and underside of the hood from “Mrs. Chevrolet” Elaine Harrell and Harrell crew members. (Photos of them signing are also included).

Chevrolet offered just a 90-day warranty on COPOs which fortunately paid off for the original owner who “grenaded” the first engine due to water pump failure within its first 500 miles. Van-T Chevrolet in Topeka, ansas performed the warranty work and upgraded the COPO power plant to an L88 427 for a mere $120.00.

Additional features include: Turbo 400 automatic transmission, 2 bolt 4.10 positraction rearend, ower drum brakes, ucket seats, enter console, adio delete, 4x6 standard steel wheels, lack vinyl upholstery and one of 10 finished in “Tripoli Turquoise”. Dick Harrell options include: super tuned engine, ftermarket headers, uspension upgrades, olumn mounted tachometer, nder dash gauge package and fiberglass “stinger” hood. Sources indicate that only three Fred Gibb/Dick Harrell COPOs are known to exist. This is certainly one of the finest.
