1941 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special Imperial Sedan

Simply remarkable 39,000 mile example that remains in excellent condition overall! A great factory color of Antoinette Blue over Gray Cloth! A host of wonderful options, and recently serviced to be ready for immediately enjoyment! New tires, brakes, engine tune up, all fluids, muffler, and more! Act quickly!

Engineered and inspired by Cadillac designer Bill Mitchell, the Cadillac Sixty-Special offered an entirely new appearance for buyers of luxury cars. This new style included the absence of running boards increasing interior cabin space, fenders that extended into the front doors, strong X-frame chassis allowing the body to ride lower to the road, full fender skirts, and more! It is very likely the automobile that changed the way other manufacturers saw the way consumers wanted their highline vehicle to look. This Cadillac was already being built by the exclusive Fleetwood Coachworks department beginning in 1939 with only the best of materials available to them, but 1941 marked the last full production year before the United States entered WWII. Not only was this a rare year of vehicle to own with a short 3-year production run, this particular year of Series 60 Special was the first year spare tire side mounts were no longer offered, the horsepower of the engine increased by 20, the wheelbase was uniquely shorter, and the front headlights were integrated into the fenders. The 1941 Cadillac Series 60 Special, the final year of original Bill Mitchell design, was arguably the most perfect in all respects!

We are very pleased to offer this exceptionally low mileage 1941 Cadillac Fleetwood 60S Imperial Sedan finished in code correct 52- Antoinette Blue over code 359- Gray Bedford Cord Seats! Featuring its original, number’s matching 346ci L-Head V8 engine with Stromberg AAV-26 carburetor providing stout 150 horsepower to the driver through a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission and standard 3.77:1 rear axle ratio. Features and options include roll-up divider partition glass, Amber fog lamps, AM radio, turn signals, dash clock (in-op), under-dash heater, reverse light, dual outside mirrors, passenger visor “Cadillac” vanity mirror, rear rope assist handle, front & rear quarter vent windows, full wheel covers, Denman wide whitewall Super-Safety tires measuring 7.00-15, rear wheel skirts, front & rear bumper guards, rear fender rock guards, and more!

This example was said to have delivered new in Jacksonville, FL to a Philadelphia widow to use in her winter home. Having kept it in a garage during times of non-use, it traveled just 38,000 miles before finding the hands of John Larch of Lafayette, IN who continued as its wonderful caretaker. The engine was overhauled in the late 1990’s to better prepare it for today’s unleaded fuels, along with the body being repainted professionally to bring it back to a more original appearance as well as new interior headliner and seating upholstery. It otherwise remains all original! The chrome on the entire car is best described as excellent with exception to the front grill and hood ornament release handle showing slightly more wear which is to be expected. We would rate them very good. The front door quarter glass chrome surrounds are fair to good. ALL of the window glass is the original date-coded Safety-Plate Hi-Test glass dating from November 1940 to April 1941 depending on the location on the car! The dash wood-graining remains excellent as does the factory steering wheel! The trunk has been professional refinished, but it appears to retain the factory Firestone spare tire.

Most recently, due to lack of use from the former owner’s collection of 13 years, it has been treated to a complete rebuild of the brakes. All new master cylinder, front shoes, wheels seals, front brake hoses, repacked wheel bearings, new hydraulic brake fluid, all completely bled for excellent brake pedal feel. Also completed just prior to its arrival to the Car Museum was a full tune up with new Delco spark plugs, new wires, distributor cap & rotor, radiator hoses & clamps, heater hoses & clamps, drive belts, new battery cables & braided grounds, tires, and exhaust muffler. An electric fuel pump with filter aids the car for cold starts these days, but no other modifications are noted other than an integrated battery cut-switch for times of storage. Showing only 39,974 miles today, it is a remarkable car no doubt for staying this solid, rust free, and maintaining such originality! A CCCA Full Classic vehicle, and one of only 220 Imperial Sixty-Specials (Style #41-6019S) ever built! Rare and investment grade!
