Evolve Motors is pleased to present this rare 1956 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible!
What We Know:
The prior owner believed to have purchased the car from the original owner in approximately 2000. We were told that the widow’s garage had a tree fall onto it and destroyed the roof. Everything needed to be removed, so she sold the car. This Cadillac was originally delivered in Los Angeles, and made it’s way to Wisconsin sometime in between. This is a very correct and complete car, making it the perfect restoration candidate. There will be absolutely no parts searching, as this unmolested survivor still has the most original clamps, vacuum hoses, air cleaner assembly, even the wiper jar is present! It was re-painted early on in it’s life from the original Alpine White to black. The interior was left in it’s original trim colors and material. The top material was replaced some time in the early 2000’s. At the same time, the owner did a thorough brake service, which included all new wheel cylinders and brake lines, as well as overhauling the treadle-vac brake booster. The great news is that the car runs and drives well and stops safely, just as it should. Have we mentioned that this is an extremely rare Series 62 Convertible, as it was equipped with a factory A/C system. It is believed that less than 50 of these convertibles had the Factory A/C option.
How’s the Car:
As we mentioned earlier, the car does run on it’s own (clean) fuel system, and does so nice and smoothly. Absolutely no smoking or engine noise to be noted. It stops nicely with a firm, high pedal. The front end is nice and tight, and steers/brakes straight down the road. The top operates up and down smoothly, and all of the lights work. The windows do work, however the driver’s side master switch has some noticeable corrosion, so 2 of the 4 windows are not lowering. The glass is original, dated, and in very good condition, though the driver’s side window does have some scratching. All of the interior hardware is present (door handles, locks, radio knobs, etc), as are all of the exterior trim and emblems. The dash pad is in excellent condition. The period-correct continental kit is bolt-on, and can be removed and put back to original with ease. The original rear bumper will bolt right back to the original reinforcement if you wish to remove the kit. The gas tank inlet is in good condition. It opens smoothly, latches tightly, with the tail lamp lighting up. We do note that the gas gauge does work as well. The only gauge not working would be the engine heat temp, but we do note no overheating of the engine. The battery tray suffered years of acid corrosion, and needs to be replaced. We do have the NOS part to replace it with (see pics). The original spare tire is present.
The frame is solid and undercoated. Body pans have rust, but are repairable, and are not structural (most notably in the driver side floor pan – see pics). The outer tins and inner rockers are very solid and mostly dry. The front fenders are extremely dry, especially by the headlights. The body mounts and frame supports are solid. The stainless steel trim is all straight and all chrome is present.
This car is so much more than meets the eye. Give us a call at Evolve Motors today to find out more about this extremely rare, 1956 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible!
