1987 BMW 535i M-Look (E28) Manual Cosmetic and Suspension M Package Fresh Repaint/Over $27k Invested Heated-Power M Sport Seats VIN #WBADC7405H171xxxx 186,500 Miles Cirrus Blue Metallic (189) on Natural Tan Leather Sport Seats 5-Speed Manual Transmission Straight and Dry West Coast Car Clean and Clear California Title Clean Carfax® Report / No Accidents All Original Panels w/VIN Stickers BMWCCA Owned The E28 body style of the 5-series was launched in 1981 and lasted until 1988. Later in the production run, the 3.5L engine was introduced in various forms from the M5, 535,... 535iS, and M535i. Each of these had different packages of performance and cosmetics. This example was originally ordered as a 535i and built on January 13th, 1987. It was delivered new shortly thereafter by a BMW dealer in California. For the first 20-years of its life, it lived in Northern California with what we believe to be the 1st owner. It was then sold to another NorCal enthusiast in 2007. This 2nd owner decided to do a mostly cosmetic restoration (2008 @ 170k-miles) on the car as well as give it more of an M5-look. Either the local BMW dealer or Palo Alto Bimmer performed most of the work. Well over $20,000 was invested on the following items: New windshield with factory BMW Sekurit glass M5 front and rear control arms M5 front and rear Bilstein sport shocks/struts European H4 Hella headlights M5 front spoiler with Hella fog lights Upgraded 17”x8” factory E39 BMW wheels M5 full power heated front seats and M5 rear seats New factory dashboard New seat belts and clips Upgraded Alpine radio with satellite capability New side mirrors Rear view mirror with map lights All new rubber seals throughout the car M-steering wheel Short shifter with leather M shift knob Replaced all water and power steering hoses New water pump and radiator New alternator New brake master cylinder New clutch kit Replaced all brake pads and rotors Also, Eurotech in San Carlos, California performed a full glass out repaint of the car in its original factory color. This was a high quality bare metal repaint. In 2015, it was sold to a Northwest enthusiast/collector. He used the car for a couple years as a part-time daily driver and added 4k-miles. During this time, he invested nearly $5,000 on the following services with a top local BMW specialist: Replaced misc. light lenses New electric seat switches and seat wiring harness Engine tune-up/service including spark plugs, air filter, and fuel filter Brake system flush Complete new factory exhaust system, catalytic converter, and hangars New engine sound pad Oil service Transmission and differential fluid flush with Redline Cooling system flush Custom Coco floor mats Furthermore, the following services were performed in 2017 @ 182k-miles: Replaced clutch slave New clutch master cylinder and clutch hoses Fresh oil service and filter New wheel center caps and wrench Crank position sensors Main and fuel pump relays New exhaust tips New ECU Repaired idle control valve We sold the car to the current owner almost 2-years ago. This owner lives here in Orange County and is a long time enthusiast/collector. He purchased the car to use as his daily driver and has added another 4k-miles since he purchased it. He recently bought a 2006 BMW M3 and is finding he is using the E28 much less. During his care, he invested nearly $7,000 further enhancing this 535. Work recently performed includes: Fully adjustable European H&R suspension upgrade Work performed by Mike Burroughs @StanceWorks Special shocks, struts, and springs Sway bars Alignment Interstate battery Work performed by Bullet Performance: Master cylinder Replaced all power steering hoses/fluid flush Transmission flush Idler arm Rebuilt driveshaft Rear axles Custom exhaust system / with original period-correct Ansa tips Yokohama tires (3k-miles) M5 rear spoiler never installed (available for additional fee) New power side mirrors (original painted ones included) It is clear that each owner truly loved this BMW and gave it the proper care. The exterior looks fantastic. The paint has a great shine to it with minimal signs of use. The repaint is about 10-years old and shows the quality of the work. There are a few minor blemishes that we’ve pointed out in the photos. The original aluminum bumpers are in very good shape. The front bumper has been slightly modified so that it tucks in closer to the body by nearly 2-inches. All the glass is in great shape. The wheels show light signs of use and are wearing near new Yokohama W-speed rated tires. The chassis is very dry with no signs of damage or rust. The front brakes have about half-life remaining and the rear brakes are at about a third left. The interior is equally as nice. The M sport seats look great and show minimal wear. There are no tears or rips. The dash is perfect with no cracks or warping. The headliner has a small tear on the sunroof panel as well as some discoloration on the C-pillars (see pics). The door panels and carpet look very fresh. All the gauges function properly including the computer. The A/C blows extremely cold and has been recently serviced. The window switches and sunroof all work. The multi-function power seat buttons all work except the passenger side headrest and thigh supports. All the interior and exterior lights operate properly. The heated seats also work. This E28 3.5L drives fantastic. It starts easily on the first try and holds a nice idle. The power is strong with excellent low-end throttle response. The car feels incredibly agile for a 4-door sedan. The steering is precise. The brakes have excellent bite with no fading. The shifting is smooth with no grinding or slipping. This BMW would be a perfect “everything” car: vintage tours, car shows, daily use, or even spirited backroad driving. California registration is current and paid through October of 2019. It also passes CA’s strict smog test. This E28 comes with extra keys (5 total), most service records, original tool kit (freshly restored tools), owner’s manuals/sales brochure, jack, extra pair of painted side power mirrors, original BMW glovebox flash light, and original spare wheel/tire. *Available for an additional fee is the newer OEM complete exhaust system (see pics) as well as the new M5 rear spoiler. **Note: VIN and other numbers withheld to protect against fraud.
