Up for bid is a rare find a 1988 BMW 325 iX All wheel drive Coupe with a 2.5 litre inline 6 cylinder and a Getrag 5 speed manual transmission this Schwarz/Schwarz Coupe is being offered on aNO RESERVE AUCTION and will sell to the last bidder. This is a very rare "AWD" 4 wheel drive 5 speed BMW 2 door a model offered in North America for only 3 years 1988,1989, 1990. It is RARE for the simple fact that the majority of the AWD iX's models were the 4 door sedan and very few franchised BMW's dealers ever recieved even one shipped to them most were sold in Colorado and New England area and most had the ZF automatic transmission just a few 2 dr iX 5speeds ever made it to the North America.

Very few were sold as they were not inexpensive this particular car sold for $35,134 in 1988 dollars which in comparrison the 1988 average income was $19,334 the average price of a new car was $7222 and AWD was not at all as popular then as it is now. BMW sold very few AWD 3 series models in the United States and when you narrow it down to 5 speed Black iX's models with two doors with only a three year production run for North America just 548 units over the three year period or an average of 182 units per year like the one you see here and that was nearly 30 years ago for all of North America.
The real question is how many are left and how many are being offered on a NO RESERVE auction with a starting bid of just one dollar ?
This particular vehicle found its way to Northern California some time in the 1990's and has averaged around 6000 miles per year it has had a few owners all of which have spent a great deal of money maintaining it over the last 29 years it comes with a 3 ring binder of records that will be included with the sale. It is missing the moulding on the passenger fender which has been ordered from BMW ( was one of two such mouldings in the country of every single BMW dealerships parts departments) it will be installed on the car before the auction ends.
This car runs very well and just passed the dyno tested California emission test one week ago and passed with flying colors. It has a new exhaust and a new cataylitic converter. I am not saying the engine is as it was when new but the emissions readings out of the tail pipe can really not be better and are far below what is allowed in a 1988 automobile. Becasue of the mild climate of California cars typicaly do not rust as they do in other parts of the country and the body's last much longer than other regions especially cars designed for cold climates as example iX BMW's that however rare most were sold on the East Coast as with all car's primarliy the older they are the more miles they will have. In California every two years and everytime a change of ownership they need to be tested on a dyno. The state of California wants to get older cars off the road as most of the emissions are from cars that are worn or wearing out if they dont pass you cant sell them. It is also benifical for a State that makes millions every year to sell newer more expensive vehicles as the State with tax and lic collects around $$$ 12% of every automotive transaction. It dosent help them if you keep it for ever.

This iX does have some cosmetic modifications that it did not leave the factory with. It has 17 inch wheels with nice Falken 215- 45 ZR 17s and a M3 tail and front bumper as well as cross drilled 4 wheel disc brakes. It will come with a brand new competion clutch in the box for the new owner when the time comes, the clutch is good and is not in need of replacement its just a bonus. It has M clutch, brake and gas pedals as well as a Billet/Urethane rear shock mount and a K&N air filter and a Turner Motorsports performance chip. It would not be to difficult to restore this car back to original as it is a very solid example of what drove off the showroom nearly 30 years ago.
