1988 Bentley Eight Additional Info:

For your consideration is this 1988 Bentley Eight sedan.
I have owned this car for the past 7 or 8 years and have spent much money on it to bring it back to its former glory.Business took me to Phoenix where I had no room for the car, so it has been parked under cover at my friends farm in Kansas for the past 3 years. My friend has driven the car regularly to keep the fluids flowing, but as I am now in process of moving once again, I have decided it is time to let it go to someone who will take on the project and finish up the work. I have no idea of the true mileage. I bought it with about 99,000 miles on the odo, but Carfax stated that it had done 97,000 by 1997.My best guess judging by the age of the tires when I replaced them is that the car has covered about 160,000. This is only a guess. The good: The tires are in good shape, it has a new battery, paint and body are very good. Interior is not bad. Most things work...now the bad: The car runs and drives but does nothing properly. The engine does not consume oil, there are no strange noises or smells and runs smoothly up to a point. There is definitely a case of fuel starvation because the engine will not rev very hard. Consequently, the transmission shifts hard. Brakes work but again up to a point. The pumps are OK and the brakes lights go off. The Accumulators seem to be OK too. The suspension rises properly also. I think that the inside calipers are stuck as the front pads are only worn on one side. Fix that and she will stop like she should. There are several worn suspension joints too so there are a few clunks when driving over potholes. Cruise control does not work, neither does the radio. There are many General Motors Parts used on RR and Bentley cars of this era, the transmission is GM, the power steering pump and emission control stuff is GM, the a/c is Fridgidaire. Parts are available and the RR/Bentley Owners Club is a great resource for parts, technical publications and general help.
What you do not see inside are a tear in the drivers seat and a scruffy headliner. The wood is basic for a Rolls-Royce product being just the straight grain walnut rather than the exotic veneers found in the higher market cars.
Inspection can be easily arranged and encouraged. Interested parties should contact me thru eBAY's "Contact Seller" link and I will arrange for access.
I would advise transportation by flatbed. The car could be driven, but I would not advise it because of the compromised brakes. The last time I drove it was from Iowa to Kansas, a trip over 300 miles with no issues, but driving it thru a city would be worrying, at least for me. In a nutshell, the car is far too good to dismantle, there are less than 1750 of them left. Rolls-Royce only built 1751 in total and I know for a fact that at least one of those has been totalled. It will be valuable once it is all done. I am looking for a quick no drama transaction, and as such I am offering it for a really low price of only $8,900. I will help with shipping but it is up to the new owner to make arrangements to transport it. I am sure my friend will be accommodating if a little time is needed to arrange for removal.
Thanks for taking the time to view my listing. Please feel free to contact me if there are any questions. I will be shortly listing my other classic, so if a 1979 Lincoln Town COUPE is more your style, take a look at my other listings. It will be posted over the weekend.
