The radiator is the same, 55 Chevy model, with electric fan. It stays at 180 degrees at 102 degree temperature at the track. Everything is new, electric water pump, hoses, alternator, 850 dual feed double pump mechanical Holley carb on an Air Gap manifold feeding a pair of 1969, 202, angle plug heads, recently rebuilt with stainless valves and seats. Guide plates and roller rockers topped with finned aluminum valve covers. Lower end is a 400 Chevy bored 408 cu in with flat top pistons, H beam rods, balanced with delta cam specs as follows 502 Intake, 527 Exhaust. It idles great at 900 rpm has a nice thump. Milidon baffled deep pan and a quick change timing cover.
Ignitionis a Mallory dual point dist for a hint of nostalgia. It performs well. A 3500 stall is in front of a freshly rebuilt power glide. TCI reverse valve body, trans brake (never used) and scatter shield. B&M shifter. Custom driveline to narrowed Ford 9” with 4.11 posi. Moser axles, all set up with fresh shocks, Driveline hoop, Jegs ladder bars, pan hard bar and quarter elliptic springs used in the 60’s. THE CAR HOOKS UP! And goes straight. Chev steering box to parallel leaf straight axle. Frame is stubbed and fish plated, done correct and straight. Tie rods, no rod ends. Disc in front, drums in back. Stops great, stock tank in rear with electric frame mount pump.
Car was completed in late 2014. Made 10 passes to work out bugs and testing. 2015 made 26 passes, mostly 1/8 mile. Never abused, foot brake starts. Will do 7.40’s in 1/8th. Capable of 11.90’s in ¼ mile.
History: Lots of it and documented with pictures from Harmen bros getting it out of a wrecking yard in 1959 and setting 2 national records to Marshal James who created the Awful Austin in 1968 to 1972.
