The Austin Healey had been owned by a long time British Car enthusiast that had used it as his weekend driver. It had been used for local drives which included the exclusive yacht club in Grosse Pointe that he belonged to. The Sprite has seen very little use over the years. The owner passed away about 10 years ago and the Sprite had stayed in the garage until his widow decided it was time to sell his beloved Austin Healey.
Mechanicallythe Sprite is in good running condition.Theengineruns good and starts easily with the pull of the choke. The engine shows strong oil pressure at idle and runs smoothly. Recently tuned up with new coil, points, condenser and distributor cap. Carbs were adjusted as well. Brakes work fine including the emergency brake. Tires are old. Clutch and transmission work as they should however there is a tendency to grind in 2nd gear. Hydraulics seem fine with no leaks or issues. Does not seem to have the typical leaks that most Brit cars have.
TheInterioris in very nice original condition and shows very little wear. The original style seats are in great condition. The carpet is in good shape and is very presentable. Door panels look to be original and are in very condition. The dash was modified to accept some extra gauges and switches as shown in the pictures. The previous owner was an engineer and did a fantastic job and it looks like a factory installation. Has original radio however it is not working. An electric antenna was added and that is not working as well.
Thebodyis in good original condition considering it's age. There are the normal dings and scratches and chips that would be associated with a vintage 50 year old sports car. The Sprite was originally BRG and was repainted red many years ago. The body looks good considering it's an older restoration. There are some misc rust bubbles including the left rear wheel arch. The underside is solid and in good condition. The driver's side floor shows a repair, but overall it seems solid. Paint finish looks good for a driver as shown in the pictures. Front and rear bumpers and grill are in good condition. One of the other upgrades was to add lights underneath the rear bumper as noted in the pictures.
As noted the Sprite comes with a very rare "Factory Hard Top". The hard top has a plate that shows that it was manufactured by "Denis Ferranti Laminations LTD.They provided the hard tops for British Leyland. It also includes a nice convertible top however there is no frame for the top.
ONCE AGAIN....A "NO RESERVE AUCTION"!
