1966 AMC American 440 Additional Info:

For sale: 1966 1/2 AMC Rambler American 440 2 door coupe with rare 290 V8. Dry high desert survivor with great patina. I purchased from the long term 2nd owner's family. It's been off the road for many years, and will need the usual fuel and brake work associated with that. Currently not running, but turns over on the starter fine and rolls freely. Original 290 V8 car that was a factory automatic but was professionally converted to 4 speed by 2nd owner, who owned a repair shop and service garage. NO torque tube, it has the conventional driveshaft standard on 67-up cars. Great for a Hurst SC/Rambler clone, as it already has all the V8 parts and correct T10 transmission, AMC 20 rear end, and correct "pebble grain" AMC magnum 500 wheels. 390 V8 will bolt in. Original warranty papers and special mid-year 290 V8 manual supplement included. I’ll do my best to describe this very rare car below. PLEASE see Photobucket album link below for detail pics including underside.

Exterior: Original 24-A Cabellero Tan paint is faded to a great patina. Overall, it's a pretty straight car with a few dents and dings as shown. Dry western car that's never seen salt, no major rust issues. Surface rust on roof and some small blisters/pinholes near driver side rear wheel as shown. Underside and floors look great. Trunk has minor surface rust as shown. Passenger side quarter glass is broken, but replacement is included. This car will stand out at Cars N Coffee in a sea of me-too Mustangs and Camaros.

Interior: Original black bucket seat interior is intact but sun-baked. Will need carpet and upholstery, headliner is decent. Just a complete, original survivor project car.

Mechanical: Again, complete and original. THIS IS A PROJECT CAR. Hasn't run for years and will need complete fuel and brake service at a minimum. Original 290 whirls over on the starter with no noises or unsteady turnover. Car rolls freely and seems to go into all the gears, brakes are soft. Good candidate for a Hurst SC/Rambler clone. Very rare car and worth the time and effort to get it up and running and driving.

Pricing/Misc: This car is NO RESERVE and will sell. Reasonable transport is available, make sure when you get a shipping quote that you ask for a Non-Op rate. I will help your transporter load it. Title is clear and in my name.
